Togepi, togepi, togepi. This hat, it is....something else. Really. Something else. I am just at a loss for words for this Pokemon. (Pokemon are made of magic or something; their designs make no sense sometimes.)

I got the request for this one from a return customer in November who wanted it in time for a birthday that is still a good ways off. I told them I wasn't sure how I would make it and I would get back to them after the holidays. Well, I finally got the pattern figured out and well, this is it. Normally I don't do this with commissions but well, this is one of those were I seriously had no idea how I would make it. After thinking for a few days I came up with a plan and I just wasn't sure if it would work. I did not feel comfortable asking them to pay for the commission when I had no idea if I could produce what I designed.

Well, it did! Though, I admit. I went thought several revisions before I got it just right. That spike crown moved up and down the head a few times. I also thought I had failed several times only to come back to it a few days later with an idea on how to make it work. Really, this might be one of the craziest hat patterns I have made to date. It fits wonderfully though. The top of your head goes into the round part on the inside of the crown and then the spike crown is sewn at and angle to give it that outward shape that Togepi has. It is also stuffed to make the spikes keep their shape. I even put it on my boyfriend's head, he has a very weird shaped head and it still looks and fits him great! I am so happy with how it came out.

I know someone might say something about how Togepi's spike crown is more flat and less shaped than mine. And in the anime that might be the case but the models in game are very clearly not flat and do have a shape like this. I base all of my hats off the games and not the anime or manga. Pokemon to me is about the games and that is what I use for reference on all of my hats. I could have easily made the spike crown flat but I wanted it to be accurate to the models in game so I spent a great deal of time making it this way. I ask that you respect that.

The shell at the bottom ended up being a bit smaller than my detail oriented self would like. Accurately sized but I wanted to really put the fun designs on the shell but there wasn't the space. That is why the design continues to the underside of the brim. Really, it was self indulgence. I wanted them there so I made sure they were XD
